Dennis Holtschoppen is a Rhinelander by birth – born in Düsseldorf, Cologne at heart. Please don’t make him explain it.
He took his first steps in film and television between Cologne and Munich, in the wonderfully questionable world of trashy daytime TV. From there, he spent years with a camera in clubs and at festivals, deep in Cologne’s techno and music scene – somewhere between aftermovies, very little sleep and a lot of handheld.
Then Berlin happened. And with it, advertising. Dennis went from producer to social media creative and, after a few detours, finally arrived where he wanted to be all along: behind the monitor, directing.
Today, he directs commercials, campaigns and episodic formats, combining social-native instincts with the visual craft and storytelling of classic campaigns. His sweet spot is comedy, well timed camerawork and scenes that feel more like real moments than ads.
From trashy daytime TV and techno clubs over agency concept boards to commercial sets – not exactly the straightest route into directing, but a pretty useful one.
He is currently based in Berlin.
